Pusha T: DAYTONA REVIEW by Ivaylo S.
At the centre of all that nonsense was this precious little record. Produced by Kanye West during the Wyoming Sessions which brough us Kids See Ghosts and Nasir, DAYTONA finds Pusha T destroying anyone and anything that stands in his way. At only 21 minutes, this is the definition of the overused critical cliche of "no filler, all killer" and Push certainly kills the competition on this thing through smart bars and intricate wordplay. The gloomy and brooding production of West, coupled with the painfully clear and to-the-point lyricism of Push creates a whirlwind of malevolence that not only requires your attention, but very strongly demands it. In terms of the album’s narrative, there’s nothing particularly new here about Push’s lifestyle.; “The only kingpin that ain sinking, chess moves are made, my third eye ain’t blinking.” is a power move that leaves a lot of the new generation of rappers gasping for air. He’s legit, he’s always been legit, and you simply cannot stop rooting for him!
Poor Drake probably still has nightmares consisting of the PUSH adlib. He will also never make a record as tight, ballsy and powerful as this!
Pusha T; DAYTONA, 4.7/5
